Local Community projects

At ADVENTURES IN TIBET, we aspire to engage in conscientious tourism that will positively affect Tibetan communities. It is our dream to offer services based on mutual exchange; bridging distance of experience, space, and culture, to create a network of people invested in people. We focus our work within our own communities, employ only local Tibetans. Strive to support community projects that help to provide access to new ideas. Opportunities for visitors and locals alike. Welcome to join our local community projects.

Whether through supporting local communities to raise awareness about pressing environmental issues. Assisting students in institutions of higher learning, or overcoming language divides. Our tour company’s foundation rests upon the deep-seated desire to empower our people, our villages, and our heritage. Scholarships and Vocational Training

Many people on the Tibetan plateau face overwhelming pressure while trying to survive without the education or skills required by today’s society. Because Chinese society only provides job opportunities on the basis of certificates or skills, our travel team partners with businessmen and entrepreneurs to give those left behind a leg-up. We currently assist 7 college students (four of whom study traditional Thangka painting) by providing scholarships for university and vocational study, and a monthly stipend to cover living expenses.

In selecting our scholarship recipients, we examine and recruit ambitious, dedicated students whose lack of financial support makes continuous study difficult. If you would like to know more about who we support, where we support, and how we support, or if you would like to join the Scholarship and Vocational Training Project, please contact us and type in the subject line: “Scholarship Project”.

Hospital Translation Service

The ADVENTURES IN TIBET travel team has partnered with a businessman named Tharpa Gyaltsen, to assist in hiring Tibetan university students as hospital translators for Tibetan people coming from very remote areas. As Tibetans who travel to the city from rural areas to seek medical care often do not speak Chinese, effective communication with Chinese doctors is difficult. Providing translation services helps to orient people to language and terms foreign to them. More importantly, bridging the language barrier provides full access to healthcare that can literally save people’s lives.

We support two Tibetan university graduates to serve as translators in each of the large western-medicine hospitals in Xining and Lhasa. These hospitals include Qinghai Provincial Hospital, Xining’s Red-cross Hospital, The First Hospital of Xining, The Second Hospital of Xining, The Fourth Hospital of Xining, Zhong Hospital, Tibet Autonomous Regional Hospital, and Lhasa Public Hospital. If you would like to know more about the medical system, the hospitals we work in, and our translation efforts, or if you would like to join the Hospital Translation Project, please contact us and type in the subject line: “Hospital Translation Project”.

Tibetan Charity School Pupils

Charity schools such as Mangzong Sherig, Pema Shamkyong and Munsel, have for many years put immense efforts into supporting the vitality of Tibetan culture and education. The purpose of the education these schools provide is to inspire cultural literacy by allowing Tibetans the opportunity to become literate in their mother tongue. The founders of these charity schools aim to endow their students with an education that incorporates, in equal parts, new, global education systems, and traditional Tibetan education systems. The teachers and founders of these schools make long-term investments in careers of their pupils post-graduation, however as these schools are run purely on donations, they constantly face financial barriers. Adventures In Tibet endeavors to work with these schools because they tend to be locally run, locally staffed, and dedicated to raising greater society’s level of education. if you would like to join the Tibetan Charity School Pupils Project, please contact us and type in the subject line: “Tibetan Charity School Pupils”.
