Day 1: Arrive in Lhasa

Upon arrival you will be met by our staff at the airport or train station in Lhasa and transfer to the hotel. Overnight: Tibetan styled hotel

Day 2: Potala Palace, Jokhang Temple, Barkhor street

This day, you will to visit the famous Potala Palace, the Johkang Temple and its famous Barkhor street which are built during Songtsen Gonpo’s reign, 647 A.D. Overnight: Tibetan styled hotel

Day 3: Drepung Monastery and Sera Monastery

You will visit Drepung and Sera Monasteries, which was founded during 14th century. The most attractive is its Buddhist Scriptures debating held in the courtyard of Sera Monastery. Overnight: Tibetan styled hotel

Day 4: Drak Yerpa

In the morning drive to the hermitage of Drak Yerpa. Drak Yerpa is built on a hillside with more than 80 meditation caves and is described as the “life tree” or spiritual axis of Lhasa. After visiting Drak Yerpa return to Lhasa. Overnight: Tibetan styled hotel.

Day 5: Drive Shigatse via Gyangtse

In the morning set out for Gyangtse, which is a cultural city of central Tibet. En-route, we will see Yamdrok Yumtso Lake, Kampala pass (3975m), Karola Glacier at 4960m hight. The most important attractions for today are the Yamdrok Yumtso Lake and the famous Kumbum Stupa of Gyantse. We will drive more 90 kilometers to Shigatse. Overnight: Gesar Hotel or similar.

Day 6: Drive to Saga

In the morning, we will drive to Saga County (4500m in average). From this 400km long paved road until Saga County you will enjoy a fantastic landscape. Overnight: Saga Hotel or similar one if late booking (twin-share room basis).

Day 7: Drive to Laka Manasarovar

Drive from Saga to Lake Manasarovar for 8 hours. Overnight: Guesthouse.

Day 8: Spend hours at the lake and drive to Darchen

Take a ride around Lake Manasarovar, dip into its cold but purifying waters, and have an audience with Guru Rinpoche in his cave at Manasarovar. There are four old monasteries to be visited while driving around Lake Manasarovar. Then we drive to Dharchen, which has a famous Tibetan medical school and is 30km away from Chiu Monastery. Now you are ready for a Kailash Kora! Overnight: Guesthouse in Dharchen.

Day: Trek to Dira Puk

The Kailash Kora or circuit covers 53 km and can be done in 3 days. We head west in clockwise direction and after a few kilometers the trail climbs up to a cairn at 4730 m from where the southern face of Mt. Kailash can be enjoyed. Trek to Dira Puk takes 6 hrs. En route we will visit Tarboche, a place where an annual ceremony takes place to raise the flagpole and many prayer-flags during the Saga Dawa (15th day of the 4th Tibetan lunar month). Overnight: Simple guesthouse.

Day 10: Trek to Zutrul Puk

We are trekking from the cave of Dira Puk to Zuthul Puk (8 hrs) by crosssing Drolma la pass (5630m) and Gauri Kund Lake (5608m) where Hindus worship and immerse themselves in the icy waters of the lake. Overnight: Simple guesthouse.

Day 11: Trek to Darchen and drive to Manasarovar

We trek back to Darchen (end of the Kailash kora) and return to Lake Manasarovar. The final end of the outer kora (Parikrama) is an easy 5hrs walk down to where the river emerges onto the Barga plain. We complete the 3 day circuit trek of Mt. Kailash and we will drive back to Manasarovar Lake where you may take some water from the sacred lake back home with you. Overnight: Guesthouse.

Day 12: Drive to Tsaparang

In the morning, drive to Tsaparang (Zanda County), the former Guge Kingdom, via the famous special landscape formed by thousands of years of erosion through wind and water. Overnight: Family guesthouse.

Day 13: Visit Ruins of Guge Kingdom

We drive 17 km to the heart of the Guge Kingdom. It was founded in about 10th century by a King Yeshi-O and lasted for about 200 years. Overnight: Family house.

Day 14: Drive to Dongkar & Piyang

In the morning we drive approximately 40km northeast of Zanda county. Dungkar Piyang is a remote place where caves with extensive wall paintings formed the summer palace for the kings of Guge. These pantings are dated 1100 AD and have stylistically much in common with the Silk Road cave mural paintings of Dunhuang in China. There are three caves and one of them is home to the best preserved mandala ever. There is also a ruined monastery above the hilltop near-by the lovely village. We will drive back to Zanda County. Overnight: Family guesthouse.

Day 15: Drive to Ruthog

We will drive to Rutok via Senge Khabab River town, one of the four largest rivers in Tibet. Overnight is in Rutok county.

Day 16: Drive Towards Kashgar

We drive towards Kargilik in Xinjiang province. We will have to see how far we can get this day because it is 1200 km until Kashgar. We will probably have to stop-over one night half way to Kargilik.

Day 17: Drive Towards Kashgar

Drive to Kashgar via Kargilik (Chin. Yecheng). Barbeque dinner at a medium-class hotel in Kashgar.

Day 18: Transfer to Airport

Last day in Kashgar. Sightseeing. Preparation for departure flight. Hope you enjoyed Lhasa to Kashgar tour.
