Qinghai Lake Day Tour
Overview
Qinghai Lake is the largest saline and alkaline lake on the Tibetan plateau in western China and it is located in southern part of Qinghai province, Hainan Tibetan autonomous prefecture. The holy lake is locally known as Tso-Ngon-po མཚོ་སྔོན་པོ། meaning with “Blue Lake” and Kokonor was a name given by the Mongolians. The lake itself covers an area of 4318 square kilometres with a depth of 21 meters and it is raised 3200 meters above the sea level. Qinghai lake prospers five native fish species: Naked Carp, Stoneloaches, Trplophysa Stolikai, T. Dorsonotata, T. Scleroptera and t. Siluroides. It also prospers Yellow River fish.
What you can expect
Your private driver and vehicle pick you up from hotel at 9:00am. Drive 153km to Qinghai Lake, also know as Tso-Ngonpo and Kokonor, via Sun & Moon mountain pass. Today, we will visit the sacred and historical places such as Sun & Moon mountain pass (3800m) and the largest salt-water lake (surface 3200m). Enjoy the surrounding shores of the Qinghai Lake dotted with Tibetan festival nomadic family tents on the highlands of the Tibetan Plateau. Take great panoramic photos from a nearby local Tibetan vista point. You can also ride on a horse or yak (own expense) for an authentic Tibetan nomad experience. If you are interested you can hike the southern mountain via Shala-Pass 3800m (own expense). This trek takes up to 3800m which usually takes 1 to 2-hours. Enjoy panoramic views of the Qinghai lake. Have lunch in a picnic area by the lake. Spend time with local Tibetan nomads and learning first-hand about life in their community. We will drive back to your hotel in the early evening and tour is officially ended here.

Our driver will meet up at 9am at your hotel in Xining and start the great tour by visiting the famous Tibetan Medicine Culture Museum about 8 km away from the city centre. Learn about staged progress of Tibetan history, religion, culture and medicine as you visit the museum throughout. Admire the world’s largest Tibetan Thangka painting arts which is over 2,000 feet (618 m) long and 8 feet (2.5 m) high. This world-renowned Thangka project was produced by hundreds of artisans from Rebkong, a Tibetan area which is famous for for painting Thangkas (Tibetan traditional arts.) Overnight Trip to Rebkong
Overview
Tibetan traditional Thangka painting is the feature of Amdo Tibet and Rebkong is the famous place for to exploring it. What you can expect
Our staff will picked you at 9am and drive 2hours Rebgong (Chi: Tong Ren). Visit two sister monastries based in the villages as called Seng-ge Shong upper and lower temples. These two villages are well-known for Thangka painting places in the region. You can also explore Thangka painters’ houses in the village to get more and in-depth understanding of the makings and meanings of Tibetan traditional arts. In the evening we will stay in a Modern Tibetan Home-stay (to help you better understanding of Amdo Tibet) The next day, we will visit Rebkong Rongwu Gonchen in the morning, the mother monastery of 36 others in the region. This is a large monastery and it will take around 3 hours visit all chapels. We will drive back to Xining in the afternoon and transfer you to your hotel in Xining.
